Tonight I was inducted into English Honor Society of Sigma Tau Delta. I got pinned, can you believe it? What a journey this has been and I'm so humbled and thankful to be a part of such a prestigious organization. It was also amazing to share this night with family and friends who have always supported me, especially my son.
Between 2010 and 2012 I was stalked and harrassed. I was called a Hoodrat, ridiculed for working as a student aid so that I could go to school full time and take care of my son, made fun of because of my weight. Then on a separate occasion I was berated about being a single mother and pretty much told I was bitter and was damaged goods. This came from women. It's great to uplift the good, but we can't forget or exclude the bad. Hearing things like this on a regular basis made me want to give up. It messed with my heart and mind that people could be so cruel and all because they based their belief about who I was on mistruths. Even if my character was faulty, the overwhelming hatred that I and many other women recieve from other women was and still is for some terrible. I could have allowed it to break me, but instead I began to research human behavior and poured their character flaws into my writings. I wrote everything, short stories, music, poems, fiction and even some technical writing. I'm thankful to God that I didn't break and was able to make them the butt of my jokes while excelling educationally and professionally. Who knew that out of something so hurtful and tramatic, something so grand would follow?
Remember, don't mess with a writer, you don't ever want to be a character in their work.
